Now that we know why we are aging faster than our Grandparents, what are you going to do about it.

As a refresher all you have to remember is the Framework SENSE. Realize why you are aging faster makes SENSE.

S– Sickness

 We are now aging and dying longer and living shorter due to Chronic Degenerative Diseases. Did you know, according to the CDC (center for disease control and Prevention), as of 2012, about half of all adults, ~117 million people had one or more chronic health conditions and that one in four adults had two or more chronic health conditions? In 2014, seven of the top 10 causes of death were chronic diseases. The two major ones were cancer and heart diseases and they accounted together for nearly 46% of the deaths. More than one in three adults in the United States is Obese, and that nearly one in three children are overweight or obese. Obesity is growing and is caused by bad lifestyle decisions, which will lead to many more dangerous chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. And if you are diabetic, did you know it is the leading cause of kidney failure, foot amputations and even blindness? 

What is stopping you from becoming one of these statistics? 

 E– Exercise

We are exercising less and sitting more. Sitting is the new Cancer.  Exercise alone is not enough to get healthy. The idea that most personal trainers tell you that as long as you can burn more calories exercising than than you eat is a myth.

The problem, is that is not how our bodies work, exercise accounts for only a small portion of the energy that is burned in your body. Depending on your activity, if you don’t exercise at all or if you do crazy pedal to you die types of exercise, your burn rate will only account for 10-30%. So what accounts for burning calories for the remaining 70-90%? 

Well, Your body is designed to burn energy in three ways, BMR, TEF and physical activity.

  • The BMR is the minimum level of energy expenditure needed to maintain vital functions. It represents the calories needed to sustain life without movement or digestive activity.
  • The TEF (Thermal effect of feeding) is the energy used to digest and absorb (break down) the foods that you eat. This changes very little depending on the types of foods you eat.
  • Physical activity is the energy used to perform Purposeful exercise and includes your daily chores such as house cleaning, moving around office, fidgeting, walking stairs, caring for children and pets, going to market, cooking, etc.

 

The BMR of a person that doesn’t exercise vs. one that does exercise will range between 80-60%. Meaning that the body for a person that exercises uses less energy at 60% than one that does not exercise at all at 80%.

Regardless if you exercise or not, your body uses about 10% energy to break down and digest your food.This leaves the amount of energy burned through physical activity to only 10-30%.That is why exercise alone is not enough to help you lose weight and to gain the muscles that you dream of.

N– Nutrition

Foods nowadays are not as nutrient dense as they were before due to over farming and Scientific methods to produce foods faster. Whole Foods have more nutrients that can be absorbed by the body, while Processed Foods have less nutrients that and any nutrients it has is harder to absorb by the body.

S – Stress

Stress is the new silent killer that takes away not only your productive time but also ages and lowers your autoimmune system as well.

E– Ethnology

We are so distracted nowadays that our habits are actually making us more lazy and less healthy, by sitting at our desks at work, lounging on our sofas after work and mindelessly munching on comfort junk food from the stresses of life
